If there’s one thing I know about the Internet for sure, it’s that “Write a description about yourself” are five words that I generally dread. To me, it’s much the same statement as:

“Please capture your entire life until this point in an easily digestible format so that random people can get a sense of the last few decades of your life in 100 years or less.”

If I was prone to anxiety attacks, I think this could be a good candidate as a cause.

As we grow up, we’re often trying to find our places in life and figure out where we fit in — essentially, we grow up trying to put ourselves in boxes.

This blog is a pretty accurate representation of where I’m at in life right now — I’ve tried finding a nice box to fit myself into before (such as failed art blogs, a blog about making extra money, and a far better blog on getting the most out of life), but it always ends up with me running out of things to say or drive to keep a blog going.

So now I blog about what I know best — living life.

    1. You know, it wasn’t until this very moment where I realized you were talking about Deebo from “Friday”. Now it all makes so much more sense….

  1. I feel you. I just wrote a new, succinct, about me. Just enough to give an idea…
Funny, I’ve been reading/following blogs since 2000 and although I’d also maintained blogs, they were never as funny or irreverent or knowledgeable as I would have loved them to be, like the ones I read. It’s only now, that I’m doing something I love, that I can blog about it with passion and integrity 🙂

    1. I like your work! I’d love to know what gear you’re using 🙂

But yeah, I feel like I finally got the “About” down for the blog, but when I try to compress my BIO into something that’s bite-sized but really speaks to who I am, that just feels IMPOSSIBLE, you know?

It’s been a good 10 years for me, and I’m finally at the point where I realize it’s just about doing what you want. If people want to get down with that, they’ll get down with it. But forcing yourself into anything in life (in general) is basically a guaranteed recipe for eventual quitting 🙂

Thanks for wandering over here from Justin’s blog!

  2. Thank you!!
I love to talk gear (even though I KNOW it’s not about gear, but…)
    I have a 5DII, 50D & XTI along with the 70-200f4non-is, 17-40f4, 85f1.8(mylove), 50f1.4 & 55-250f4-5.6is(a great inexpensive zoom when you have light 🙂
80% of the the pics on my website are with the 5D, a few with the 50D and the landscape/outdoor shots are all with my trusty Rebel!

As hard as they are to write, I LOVE reading bio’s just for that reason – to get an idea of who the person is and if I’ll ‘like’ them 🙂

Wow! I too am just (knock wood) figuring out ‘what i’m doing’ and learning to do what I love. No probs. I’ll probably find you on twitter too 🙂

    1. You’ve honestly got me drooling over all that wonderful gear. I know it’s not all about the gear, but it definitely helps!

I’ve been doing a lot of volunteer photography lately, and I’ll be looking to build a more solid portfolio soon. I’m on a 60D with the 18-200 3.5-5.6 EF-S, 50mm 1.4 and a Tokina 11-16 2.8. I have yet a TON to teach myself, but I love finally being able to have more control over how I shoot things and being able to work with RAWs to make sure that the photo reflects what I was going for.

I hope to find some time tonight or later in the week to really go through your site 🙂 Dunno the next time I’ll need some photography, but your portraits are HOT.

  3. You’ve got a great kit – covers all your bases for event & general photography and the 50f1.4 is great as a portrait lens, since it’s about 80mm on the crop body.
I’m just now really getting focused and knowing where my strengths are (Portraiture) and endeavor to work on personal projects this summer so I too get lots of practice and continue building my portfolio, especially in the newest area of ‘commercial & editorial’. And thank you for the kind words. I’m always up for doing a photowalk and/or chatting photography, if you’re interested!

    1. I hope it all goes well 🙂 If I can make time for a photo walk, I’d definitely love to give it a shot – I’ve met a good number of people over this year alone who’d probably love to make a mini-event of it 🙂

  4. Thank you. All about ‘doing’ now, isn’t it?)
A group walk would be cool too! I think you should put it out there 🙂
I’m in, if it comes together.
