Swapping, Complaining and Wolfram|Alpha

Hey all,
So sorry that the blog's a bit late today – I spent the evening with Sarah and one of our groomsmen playing a game we got recently – Catan Histories: Settlers of America – Trails to Rails. Decent game, but it's LONG. Probably took 2 1/2 hours to get through it to a Case P. victory (partly because Sarah just got tired of it in the end and gave me the two cards I needed to win – I was playing orange). To be fair, it was Jay's first game and Sarah played a colour that seems to star the game at a disadvantage, so perhaps we need a rematch…
But let's discuss a few things that are in my brain right now…

My friend NJ told me about this one – unfortunately, it's only available in the United States in the moment like so many other good ideas (I'm looking at you, Hulu and Pandora); but it's a site where you can swap your old stuff for something else. They give everything a value – often using its ISBN so that they can say how much a book, CD, DVD, etc might be worth – and you trade with other people across the US. It's a great way to get rid of stuff you know you'll never be using and instead get something that you might have been looking for for ages! We need programs like this in Canada. Probably would be better to focus them on the metropolitan areas for usability. If anyone's come across anything like it, feel free to let me know 🙂 Anything I can do to upgrade and refresh styles, I'm always interested in that!

One of my coworkers and I had a chat about complaining today. It really stemmed off from a discussion of my living with the ever-present worry that I might not reach my potential, and him being not so impressed with me having something so futile as my main worry. With no kids, major responsibilities, a good job, great significant other and my health, he has pretty much surmised that I have nothing to complain about. Whatsoever. Maybe it's some advice I should take. Will you still see rants due to frustration? Sure. Will I still write with passion when something infuriates me? Of course. But will I whine about nothing? Hm.

Wolfram|Alpha Update

Many a person has been asking me how I did in the Wolfram|Alpha contest, so I figured I should make an official statement 🙂

First off, thank you all for your support – it was an amazing showing from everyone with family, friends and tons of randoms coming out to vote! In the end, I unofficially placed at 14th, which still needs to be verified by Wolfram|Alpha. I have no idea of what I'll win – I do know it's not the iPad or the software, unfortunately – but I'll find out for sure on January 11th 🙂

And due to recent events, I sense that the workload at the 9-to-5 is due to increase significantly, so expect me to be crazy tired. Still posting. Just tired.

Anyway, hope everyone's well and drop me a line if there's anything you want to see more of in the 2K11 24/7! I have a Mac OS X to go upgrade!
