The 2K11 24/7 L: De-resolution

It’s February 19th – do you know where YOUR New Year’s Resolution is???

This is about the time of year where I hear my gym-going buddies gripe about how full their gyms are at the beginning of the year, with people flooding in trying to lose that extra weight, firm those muscles, etc.., but pretty much back to regular levels by mid-February. Those resolutions don’t last too long, eh?

Resolutions are made every year, with people trying to improve themselves and their lives; but why do people give up so readily? Resolutions won’t get done if you don’t make them a priority, and we often let ourselves get sidetracked with any diversion that comes along – e.g. phone calls, TV, the Internet….

And why do we only make resolutions on an arbitrary date, rather than just make a commitment to improve themselves over the course of time? Gradually rather than cold turkey again and again as the years pass? If it takes 30 days to make or break a new habit, what males us think that by simply stating a resolution at the year’s beginning, that we’ll be able to make a significant change in our lives?

To all the quitters out there – if you fell off the cart, perhaps it’s time to consider either getting back on, or not commiting to the same cart ride next year. Every day is an opportunity to do better – maybe you need to set your ambitions high, but your expectations low. Start with baby steps toward your goal and improve yourself bit by bit. 99.9% of the time, it’s not meant to happen overnight.

So Happy February 19th, one and all 🙂 Why don’t you pick up that resolution that’s fallen by the wayside and give it another go? You might just surprise yourself!

Over and out, mi amigos!
