How to do Mother's Day RIGHT

Let’s be real—we all know Mother’s Day as a commercial holiday’s a far cry from its original purpose when originally dreamt up by Anna Jarvis in 1908. (Don’t believe me? Ask Terry O’Reilly.) But that doesn’t mean the sentiment behind it isn’t valid. The things my mother’s done and sacrificed for her three sons are utterly priceless. When she needs something, I never worry about the price tag—I just make it happen. A quality I hope extends to my sons as they grow older, but in the meantime, I think I’ll need to step in for them.

But May’s no easy month for Casa de Palmer—at least it’s not for me. I don’t know whose big idea it was to have Mother’s Day, Sarah’s birthday and our anniversary all in the same month (what up, fate?), but it means rising to the challenge of finding a gift awesome enough to be worthy of all three.

Now—as a Best Buy Ambassador, I know they’ve got plenty in store to help you give the perfect Mother’s Day present. For example, if you mother’s the resident gourmand, perhaps grab a Vitamix Ascent 1.89L 1500-Watt Stand Blender or a KitchenAid Custom Stand Mixer. Or if she likes her coffee—and I mean really good coffee—check out the Breville Café Roma Pump Espresso Machine or the Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee System with Aeroccino Plus. Watches, jewellery, and fitness trackers—Best Buy offers more than most imagine, and I had to find just the right gift for Sarahpalooza 2017!

But then it hit me—a perfect gift for Sarah that she’d still use years down the road: a Microsoft Surface Pro 4!

How We Hooked Sarah Up for Mother’s Day—The Microsoft Surface Pro 4!

Sarah's Computer—IDE to USB

Sarah’s laptop had seen better days.

Bought in late 2012 back while pursuing a psychology post-grad, Sarah’s ASUS laptop replaced a decade-old 10-pound DELL laptop still kicking around till I stepped in. I tried a number of times to coerce Sarah over to my side of the computing world, but her love for Windows ran too deep. So I figure—let’s get her what she wants and introduce her to the Windows machine by the people who make Windows!

See, Sarah never splurges on tech for herself. Her frugal Dutch upbringing saw premium devices as more luxuries than necessities. It taught her to run her tech into the ground before buying new devices.

And there’s some merit to that since we don’t always need to have the best and brightest devices out there, but there’s a point where outdated tech just isn’t reasonable anymore. So Dutch thinking or no, it was time to make a change.

It was time to take a look at a new laptop.

For Sarah, the boys and I snagged the i5 128 GB Microsoft Surface Pro 4 which should have speed and storage aplenty for the things she usually does online, like keep in touch with friends on Facebook and work with her files through Microsoft Office. I haven’t dared play with it much myself, but here are some observations from what I’ve seen so far:

  • This thing is LIGHT: At 1.69 lbs (or a whopping 1.73 lbs when you slap on a Type Cover, it’s one of the lightest computers I’ve ever used
  • But it’s NOT a computer: Don’t get it twisted—with a 12.3″ display, all the Windows apps we’re familiar with, and up to 16 GB RAM, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is actually a powerful laptop-grade tablet that can do everything most Windows laptops can!
  • It brings so many more POSSIBILITIES: With the help of the Surface Pen (included with most models), the Surface Pro 4 really challenges how you operate. It helps you go paperless, it can roll with you anywhere, and it can connect to all your devices—it’s a great tool to really upgrade the way you work!

Sarah was stunned by her gift (I haven’t heard her stammer that much since I proposed) and I’m very glad she likes it. I couldn’t have done it without Best Buy!

But you don’t have to get your Mom a new computer to make her Mother’s Day—Best Buy offers plenty of ideas that your Mom will love no matter what her interests!

Okay, boys, we did it right for 2017—let’s regroup and do it again in 2018!

For this Mother’s Day, all Sarah wanted was a little time off. After all, raising kids ain’t easy, and I’m happy to provide it. But I’m from a gift-giving family and spent many a year getting it right. Yeah, a Tiffany necklace is nice, but I feel like Team Palmer got it right this year!

Make sure you let your Mom know how much you care with a well-thought-out gift this year! And as long as it doesn’t involve fresh produce… Best Buy got you!

Have an excellent Mother’s Day and until the next,

My Mom is selfless always thinks about others first she goes above and beyond to help others before herself , she loves unconditionally and never judges , she my best friend <3

Since I treated my mother like crap when I was a teenager, I try my best to treat her the best I can now to make up for the missed years!!

I don’t have a Mother figure in my life now but she taught me how to be a great Mom to my 5 girls so it would have been amazing to treat her and tell her how much she meant to me.

I would go above and beyond for my mom because she has been the best friend a girl could have my entire life. She tolerated my rebellious teen years and never showed me anything other than love and support, no matter how foolish I was being. She has more patience in her pinky finger than I do in my whole body! She truly is the type of person I aspire to be.

her kind heart, caring and always there when you need her, she was one that never did anything for herself always giving and doing for others

I would go above and beyond for my Mom because she has always gone above and beyond for me.

My Mom is no longer with us but I would of went above and beyond for her because she always did that for me, she was my #1 supporter!

She is always there when I need her. Whether I need her to watch the kids for an hour or if I need a shoulder to cry on.

My mom was very kind, generous, and loving so I would always go above and beyond for her.

I have the best Mom because she’s given her 8 children & their spouses, 19 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren unconditional love & support. My Mom is sweet, kind, gentle, loving & an inspiration to everyone that knows her. We’ll be celebrating her 96th birthday in October & we’re truly blessed to be part of her family.

My mother always put me first growing up . Being a single mom she worked twice as hard .

My amazing mom is so full of kindness. She is such a hard worker and quite literally, a supermom. Not only is she my best friend, she’s a caregiver of 2 disabled people, including myself, and takes care of rescued animals. I would love to be responsible for some well deserved pampering!

I’d go above and beyond for my mom as I am just like her so I want to ensure she has the best care tee hee

My mom raised 6 kids on her own as a widow and I always think of her on Mothers Day and every other day

I love to go above and beyond to make her Mother’s Day special because at 91 she is still my rock !

My mom goes out of her way to make things easier for us – even now that she has a few grandkids – so I’d love to go above and beyond to make her Mother’s Day special.

I try to go above and beyond to help my mum, she just turned 91 in April ,and isnt in the best of health , so i spend as much time as i can with her,she says she loves it ,when i send a whole day .god love her she is the best mum to me and my 6 siblings,

My mom is so caring, supportive and loving. She is always there to lift me up when i am down and cheer me on when I am up. She deserves only the best.

My Mom is no longer with us but what made me go above and beyond to make her Mother’s Day in the past was that she’s alway been there for me and I love her.

My mom was such a awesome person she was always there for anyone that needed help, she took care of me and 6 siblings and she made real good roast beef dinners

The fact that my mom is always positive! i dont know how many times i have called or wrote her over something i was upset about and how she could turn everything around and find the positive in it

My mother lost her mother when she was 17. Got married at 23 had 7 children. Took care of her father. Then her sick brothe. Nursed her youngest so threw cancer for 2 yrs. before he lost the battle. There was many more things that she was there for to help us. She is 93 and still takes care of her son of 61 with arthritis. She is a power house who has gone threw alot.

Growing up we didn’t have much because my mom was a single parent of 4 kids but the one thing we knew and still know…is if we need our mom she will be there no questions asked/ no judgments!

My mom has taught me so much in life. She is 87 and I would do whatever I can for her. She had a hip replacement a few months back and I stayed with her for two months until she was safely back on her feet and using her walker to get around.

My mom is awesome, she is always there for her children when they need her. And she is a really awesome Grandma.

I only wish I could show my Mom how much I love her. She died a few years ago and all I can hope for now is that I showed her enough while she was here.

I would go over and above for my mum as she was one in a million!
I lost my mum when she was just a young 59. She was so caring and giving and would do for anyone when in need. She put her children before herself or anyone else. And she loved us all unconditionally. I would love to have her for just one full day again just to spend time with her to say the things I never had a chance to, and to just give her a big hug once more. As a mum myself, I know just how it feels to be loved by my children… and grand children.

I am truly blessed to still have my mom in my life. At 91 years young, she shows no signs of slowing down. She has a zest for life, and has always been there for her family. A great listener and often offers words of wisdom and comfort. She also has a wacky sense of humour and just fun to be around. So yes, I would do anything for her.

I will always be there to spend time with my mom and to listen. she has always been there for me and always will be I have the best mom

My mother wasn’t good to me, I forged great relationships with other wonderful women who were great mother figures to me, my godmother, my step grandmother and my mil, they are all people I love dearly and would go above and beyond for them any day and they would do the same for me

I’d go above and beyond for my mom because that’s what she’s done for me all my life.

Mom is the personification of love and kindness. She has always sacrificed for her children and thought of everyone else before herself.

My Mom is always doing everything for everyone. She helped me with my kids, she helped me through school and is always there to lend an ear.

My mom taught me how to appreciate the small things in life and how to love our children unconditionally and for all eternity. I loved all the butterfly kisses, the big bear hugs and the dandelion bouquets that my children gave me.These are the things that fill your heart with so much love it feels like it might burst. 🙂

I would go above and beyond for my mom because she is my best friend and is always there for me.

I owe my whole life to my mom, that’s why I will always go above and beyond for her! She is a great mom, and an even better grandma, so she deserves the best for all the love and time she gives to our whole family.

She works hard all the time to serve her family. She serves all the time. I want to be like her.

I would go above and beyond for my mom because I know she would do the same for me. She has always been the first to help when friends or family have been sick or needed any help and she is still there to help any way she can. She is very giving and kind and I try to be the same and follow her example.

Not close to my mom but my mother in law I would go above and beyond as she’s always been there as if I one of her own kids.

I would totally go above and beyond for my mom. Especially given the chance now that I live 4 hours away. It’s hard to travel with the kids between home and there. She’s been my rock and an amazing mother. My kids love and adore her. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
