How Can We Fix the World?

What can we do about the world?

Tonight I got the rare opportunity to sit down and watch some news after a lengthy day of work.

Civil unrest in the Middle East. Flooding in North Dakota. Corporations trying to bribe government officials to look the other way while they commit heinous crimes against the planet.

It’s a crazy world out there, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.

So what can we do to fix the world around us?

That’s a really good question—I’d love to hear some thoughts from people who know far more than I on this topic. I have friends who get involved in letter-writing, protesting and lobbying in other ways for the causes that are important to them. I know that in other parts of the world, people often die for causes, because they mean that much to them.

Are we capable of fixing the world here in North America? Can we work back our collective apathy and fixation on our continental issues to see what else is going on in the world out there?

And how do we do it?

Do we volunteer more? Do we go around the world to help others in volatile areas? Or perhaps, do we band together and try to tackle these issues through power in numbers?

Consider this the question of the day—while I go ponder it in bed, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Maybe we can even find ways to make some of them happen!

Looking forward to it,

One reply on “How Can We Fix the World?”

I think as a society, we need to return to honoring the old traditional values that everyone seems to gloss over these days. Hard work, perseverance, honesty, and the other “Old School” virtues. Where in society are these things promoted? In the media the get rich quick schemes and lucky are pervasive. We honor rock stars more than teachers. We pay football coaches more than professors. Basket ball players make more than inventors. The gravity storm is indeed coming, if history is ignored and man fails to teach his children the value of having character.
