Since I’m getting married tomorrow, I figured I should write something epic that truly captures where my mind’s at right now, since it may never be the same again. So here’s a premise to start with:
LIVE YOUR LIFE.
No one’s going to live it for you. Stop whining. Stop complaining. YOU are in control of your life. YOU. Not your boss, not your parents. Not your kids, parole officer, spouse or pastor. YOU. Even in Christianity, God gave us free will. We have rules, but He wants us to be able to operate autonomously. So, knowing that YOU’RE behind the steering wheel of life, why are YOU holding YOURSELF back?! That’s RIDICULOUS! You should be gunning forward full throttle, not sitting around wallowing in self-pity!
So there. That’s a premise for you.
But how? HOW do you go about living your life? You get ONE—how do you make the most of it?
Be bold. Take risks. Break some rules. DON’T GET CAUGHT. Find yourself. Lose yourself. Be yourself. There is no such thing as a stupid question—just don’t ask too many of them. What YOU do in public is what YOU do in public—what’s it matter what they think? Do what you love, love what you do. Wake up ready to make it your best day ever. Flirt. Explore. Experiment. Exercise your rights, your mind, your body. DO NOT let ANYONE control you but YOU. EVERYTHING is voluntary—but EVERY action has CONSEQUENCES. Don’t get so attached to things—they won’t be there forever. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes—accept it, learn from them, move on. There are times where you HAVE to be a jerk. DANCE. Being self-conscious is so overrated. MOST of your drama is ALSO overrated. Stop holding grudges. We all look good naked. Don’t be an idiot. There IS a difference between a mistake and a STUPID LIFE DECISION—fortunately, the latter is a pretty small category. All those hours of overtime are NOT WORTH IT. Sing aloud at all times. Don’t hold back. Anything can become an opportunity. Live a little. Live a LOT. Money isn’t everything, but it helps. You’re old enough to learn how to dress. Listen to your own advice. Instinct is important. Always learn new skills. Don’t be afraid to get rid of it if it’s not doing you any good. The worst they can say is no. It’s not as bad as you think. Trust few, love all. Play. Be better than you were yesterday. Be memorable. You won’t know until you try. Let the professionals handle it. Stretch. Sleep. Doesn’t hurt to pray. Treat your friends like they matter to you. A perfect record earns you nothing you can hold. Tell good stories. One day, you’ll be EXACTLY like your parents, so live it up while you can. Accept change. Adapt. Attract. Learn to tell a joke. Learn how to TAKE a joke. Don’t BE a joke. Siestas are highly underrated. Bring back recess. Fun is not limited by geographical location. One thing at a time. Always perform to the best of your ability.
Seriously, though—take these words for what you will, but at the end of the day, it’s your life.
DO SOMETHING WITH IT.

Congrats, Casey! All the best tomorrow… cherish each moment (it all happens so fast!)
Heh, thanks Honey 🙂 I expect it to be a crazy day, but these months of planning weren’t for nothing 🙂
What a great post!!! It’s definitely one of my favourites. Congratulations Casey!!! Have a wonderful day 🙂
Thanks, NJ 🙂 I got to a point where I was writing furiously as I got my thoughts out; I think this best captured many of the thoughts that were in my head as the wedding planning was wrapping up and I was dealing with the idea of changing the status of my life forevermore. Glad you enjoyed it!
