Sometimes you’ve just gotta slow the pace down and see where life takes you.
I scribbled this post out on the bus—note: it was the wrong bus, it took slightly longer to get home; but after a testing game of Ultimate Frisbee in the rain, I welcomed the rest any way I could get it.
We’re a bunch of busybodies. We spent all our time telling each other how busy we are, wearing the burden like a badge of honour. We try to fit as much as we can into our days because there’s an increasing awareness of our mortality and the finite nature of time.
But really—what’s wrong with just sitting back, taking a deep breath and letting the calm wash over you every now and then?
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Do you know what’ll happen if you stop and take a little “me” time here and there?
The work will still be there tomorrow. The dishes will be there. Your kids, the people who annoy you, your ever-growing to-do list—they’ll all be there. But it’s very similar to what you’re told to do in the event of an accident—get yourself into a position of safety first before trying to help anyone else; otherwise what good are you?
So if you’ve got a ton to do, but you’re so stressed out that you’re at your worst disposition—you’re not helping anymore.
Take 5 minutes. Chill out. Let your mind clear itself of all the junk so you can think clearly. Then it’s easier. Then it will make sense to you. Then you can get the important things done without all the headaches and hassle.
And that’s what we all want from life, isn’t it?
