Of Infections and Self-Introspection

Hey guys, how’s it hanging?

Hope you enjoyed this week’s series of voice posts—it gave my finger some time to get a little better, though really, it never really did. I needed to go back in to get it looked at again, and even now I can’t tell whether the infection’s subsiding or increasing. I’ll make sure to monitor it closely over the weekend to see what comes of it.

Today—a day where we are now down one more staff member and one more consultant—I realized that there are only 15 business days left here for me before going off on vacation to get married and get away for a while with my soon-to-be wife, Sarah. It’s a bit of a comforting thought, since so much has been going on with no signs of slowing down. The last while has seen me scanning and sorting things into lists and mind maps; I’ve been trying to take a little more time to rest and not get so caught up in the massive tasks I choose to undertake… it’s been a busy time.

At the same time, I feel like I’m slowing down a bit. I don’t know if I’m just unable to keep up at the moment or what, but it’s been like those times where you feel like time is moving at a slower pace. Harder to wake up, harder to sleep. Always seem to be up to something, but challenging to put all the pieces together to figure out why I’m doing it 😊

However, even when faced with so much happening and what seems to be an insurmountable onslaught of tasks, all is not lost. These are the times when it’s important to remember the things that keep us going in life. You may be like me in that you’re not really aware of what you’re passionate about. You’re not necessarily apathetic, ambivalent, slow-witted or whatever—you’re just a little lost. Nothing seems to click.

But remember your friends. Your family. Your favourite food. A funny clip that you might have seen on YouTube. An editorial comic. The feeling just after you get out of a warm shower. Fun moments of your childhood. (Hm, I think I’m starting to realize why the Book of Awesome sells so many copies…)

There’s a lot that can get you down, but a lot that can keep you going as well. It’s just way easier for us to keep miserable than to really make an effort to be happy with our lives and what’s going on around us.

My weekend’s not lined up to be as amazing as I may like, but what I promise to try and do is make the best out of every moment given to me so that I come out of it better than I went in 😊

So keep that chin up and remind yourself of the things that keep you going in life. Here I am, sitting with “Scream” by Michael and Janet Jackson blaring into my ears, giving me the energy I need to keep on top of things. It’s a packed evening ahead of me, but you know what? It’ll be a good one.

I’ll make sure of it.

‘Til next time!
