twenty must be really bored at work, since he sent me a nudge that I hadn’t updated my journal in four weeks. Man—I just don’t have much to say 😋
Alright, let’s see what’s up.
THE GOOD:
LA in FOUR FREAKING DAYS! It’s gonna be the party that cold rocks the party (as one would say in the early 90’s). I still have to do a few things before I go—like get new shoes, but that shouldn’t be too bad. I’m looking forward to it. I have yet to crack open the travel guides I borrowed from the library to see what sights I want to see, and what foods I want to eat. Gotta remember to do that.
My art’s getting recognized and shit! A few instances over the last while are slowly inspiring me to get more art done:
1—an artist from LA, Akiko (https://www.akikomatic.com/), bought a print of my Jay-Z drawing for $20 US. I was pretty stunned at how much she put up for a PRINT. She wants to buy the original as well, but that won’t be for sale for a good while, far as I can see. However, this gives me a bit of motivation to keep working at my art, because it seems that it could actually go somewhere in the future 😊
Wow. This post DID take a while to write, didn’t it? As of writing this, Akiko has already received the print and is very happy with it. Nice! She also wants me to do a commission for her, which is pretty awesome as well. The future is looking alright 😊
2—I was sent an email from someone in France opening up a gallery of celebrity portraits (https://www.stars-portraits.com/), because they’d seen my DeviantArt page (https://pimpchimp.deviantart.com) and said they were “very impressed with your portraits”. I’ve asked for more info to see what this is all about and such 😊
Despite THE UGLY below, my credit is still okay for the time being (I’ll need to work my ass off to recover some, though *sigh*), which means that I’ll definitely be stopping by Anime North (https://www.animenorth.com) on Saturday. Normally I’d have a table with another artist or two, but yanno—you’ve gotta learn from your patterns. I knew I wouldn’t have anything substantial by the time this con swung around, so I’m trying to get my motivation working so that I’ll have tons of things to hawk for the September con. However, back to Anime North—there’s a lot of different artists and friends that I’d like to see (and amounts of money that I’ll be dropping), so I’d do well to show up. It’s going to be a mad rush on Saturday, and then I’ve gotta come home to sleep—8 am flight on Sunday 😑.
Things are good with friends and all that—I have a lot of good ones, which helps a lot with making sure I don’t get too bored or anything 😊
THE BAD:
1—Work. I mean, it’s alright and all, but this new branch… I dunno. It’s a lot different from what I’m accustomed to. Different style of management, more of a focus on the individual than there is on the team, from what I can see, but I’m growing accustomed to it. Still trying to have as much fun as possible with the job, but I find that I get along better with my coworkers on the service side than the ones on the sales side (where I actually work). Alas, you’ve got to make the best with what you’ve got, right?
THE UGLY:
1—An old family friend borrowed a nice heap of money from me, and doesn’t really look like he’s about to pay it back. If he doesn’t get it to me by Friday, I’m just going to cut him off. It’s distressing, yes, but I can’t keep losing money and sanity over this kind of stuff. We’ll see how it turns out.
But yeah, that’s life in a nutshell. Still got a crapload to do before I leave, so I better get some rest so I can get up and get to it. UNTIL LATER!
