I had a Syrian coworker once who was quite the comedian! In the eight months of planning my wedding, he was rife with hilarious advice and wisdom to keep me going.
But what I would soon realize is that not only were these pieces of advice for how to run a successful weddingāthey could be applied to just about ANY social gathering you come across! Hereās a couple of the gems of Syrious (yes, I went there) advice heās sent my way:
1: The Heaven of the Children is in Their Home
Children will change the dynamic of any party. With kids around, you need to watch your language, watch your behaviour and continually set a good example. If you want kids to be safe from the drunkenness and debauchery that goes on at most parties, where do you think is the safest place for them to be?
2: Don’t Invite, Cause They’ll Make a Fight
We all have them: the friends in a relationship whoāre constantly at each otherās throats. They instantly turn any happy and celebratory atmosphere around them awkward and hostile. So why do we invite these people to eventsābecause theyāre friends? If so, let me remind you that friendship is a two-way street. The care and respect you show to your friends should be reciprocated if youāre holding an eventāwe all have our spats with our significant others (itās inevitable), but thereās a time and a place to throw down. If they canāt remember that, perhaps they should seriously consider counselling or you should seriously considering having a conversation with them about the problem.
I wish I had more, but thoseāre the only ones I had jotted down in my notebook! So the next time youāre throwing that party, these tips might make the difference between it flowing with the best of them or sinking into a hot mess. Happy planning!
