Best Buy Canada | Mother’s Day

Let’s be real—we all know Mother’s Day as a commercial holiday’s a far cry from its original purpose when originally dreamt up by Anna Jarvis in 1908. (Don’t believe me? Ask Terry O’Reilly.) But that doesn’t mean the sentiment behind it isn’t valid. The things my mother’s done and sacrificed for her three sons are utterly priceless. When she needs something, I never worry about the price tag—I just make it happen. A quality I hope extends to my sons as they grow older, but in the meantime, I think I’ll need to step in for them.

But May’s no easy month for Casa de Palmer—at least it’s not for me. I don’t know whose big idea it was to have Mother’s Day, Sarah’s birthday and our anniversary all in the same month (what up, fate?), but it means rising to the challenge of finding a gift awesome enough to be worthy of all three.

Doing Mother's Day RIGHT Courtesy of Best Buy!—One of Sarah's Birthdays

Now—as a Best Buy Ambassador, I know they’ve got plenty in store to help you give the perfect Mother’s Day present. For example, if you mother’s the resident gourmand, perhaps grab a Vitamix Ascent 1.89L 1500-Watt Stand Blender or a KitchenAid Custom Stand Mixer. Or if she likes her coffee—and I mean really good coffee—check out the Breville Café Roma Pump Espresso Machine or the Nespresso VertuoLine Coffee System with Aeroccino Plus. Watches, jewellery, and fitness trackers—Best Buy offers more than most imagine, and I had to find just the right gift for Sarahpalooza 2017!

But then it hit me—a perfect gift for Sarah that she’d still use years down the road: a Microsoft Surface Pro 4!

Best Buy Smart Home

Last updated on April 20th, 2021 at 09:39 pm

Part of me wants to think I was the perfect kid, never causing trouble for my parents… but my childhood home would likely disagree. I routinely fell asleep with the light on. I burned TVs out holding my place in the video games I kept on all night. Yes, I kicked holes in walls and jammed garage doors through idiocy—the fact that the house is in great condition today is a miracle unto itself!

But the ’90s it is not. We’ve come a long way since towering home entertainment systems with dedicated real estate to handle their bulk. TVs are slimmer, computers are lighter, and our phones are remotes for the whole shebang.

Though my childhood had wired peripherals and cords galore, the same doesn’t have to go for my boys, and I’m glad—I don’t think this house could outlast them otherwise!

What we really needed was a home far smarter than ourselves, and I knew just the people to help—none other than Canada’s go-to retailer with the best selection of the latest tech at the best prices.

It was time to say what’s up to Best Buy!

And it just so happened they had a Smart Home showcase at 2017’s National Home Show!

Best Buy | How to Get the Best Gifts This Christmas

I’m apparently impossible to shop for.

Scoring the Best Gifts Thanks to the Best Buy Blue Shirts!—Vegas Haul Februaru 2013
If you send me to Vegas and you’re all like, “Hey Casey, here’s $1000 to spend,” you’d better believe I’m going all-out!!!

In the nine years we’ve been together, Sarah’s seen firsthand how I operate. When I need something, I usually get it myself. My purchases usually involve a ton of research and consideration before committing, but when I’m ready, I’m not one to wait for permission to add a new tool to my life.

Which makes it really hard to get me Christmas gifts when I’ve already bought the things I’d put on my wishlist months in advance. But my fierce independence didn’t dissuade Best Buy Canada who approached me with a mission—to choose a cool gift for myself from their Top 20 Under $200, a list curated by my helpful local Best Buy Blue Shirt, and find someone on my “nice list” who’d get something too!

I guess there’s plenty of people I could’ve chosen for my nice list, but really—the more I hustle, the more I realise how important my family is to me, and whether good times or bad, they’re always the ones I’ll think of first.

So after making a list (and checking it twice), I saw something I’d always wanted to try, but never saw reason to buy for myself, and added the Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance Starter Kit to our home!

The Best Buy He-Shed

November 10th-12th marked the fourth annual Gentlemen’s Expo here in Toronto, ON, an event designed to show men everything they need to live life to the fullest. From clothes to booze to tech and more, it was a weekend go-to for any man looking to take his game to the next level.

And smack in the middle of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s South Building was the Best Buy He-Shed, a men’s haven chock full of stuff that you wouldn’t expect from Canada’s biggest tech retailer!

Designed by the highly-acclaimed Christine Dovey, the Best Buy He-Shed stood as a testament to the traditional man cave, but draped in an aesthetic that made it anything but. The ultimate backyard retreat for the modern man, the He-Shed married chic décor with sleek tech to give enough options for any man to make it a space for relaxation and rejuvenation.

While there, Christine took me on a tour of the space, including chatting with vendors who embodied the tips she laid out for any guy to create a He-Shed that’s both tech-forward and perfectly personalised!

Let Best Buy Canada Get You Back to School!

Summer’s over. Time to go back to school!

“Back to school” is a strange concept for me as it’s been about a decade since I was last a full-time student. Having worked all the time since, I barely recognize the summer vacation months when they come along, noting only that it’s a little hotter and all the fun stuff in town’s a lot busier than it was a few months prior.

Which is all fine and dandy—until you have a kid.

Because Back-to-School is Different as a Parent.

I woke up early on the Tuesday following Labour Day, getting my Facebooking in before the toils and tribulations of the day ahead. I’ve spent 9 years seeing my Facebook evolve from club kids without a clue to travel, weddings and baby announcements, but this morning my Facebook feed was plastered with kids getting ready for the first day of school. My little guy’s only creeping on 10 months old, and I already find myself thinking of all the things I’ll need to keep in mind when he’s in preschool. Then in elementary school. And later in high school.
