Can Best Buy Canada Set You Up for Back to School with a $250 Gift Card?

Summer’s over — time to go back to school!

“Back to school” is a strange concept for me as it’s been about a decade since I was last a full-time student. Having worked all the time since, I barely recognize the summer vacation months when they come along, noting only that it’s a little hotter and all the fun stuff in town’s a lot busier than it was a few months prior.

Which is all fine and dandy — until you have a kid.

Because Back-to-School is Different as a Parent.

I woke up early on the Tuesday following Labour Day, getting my Facebooking in before the toils and tribulations of the day ahead. I’ve spent 9 years seeing my Facebook evolve from club kids without a clue to travel, weddings and baby announcements, but this morning my Facebook feed was plastered with kids getting ready for the first day of school. My little guy’s only creeping on 10 months old, and I already find myself thinking of all the things I’ll need to keep in mind when he’s in preschool. Then in elementary school. And later in high school.

An Exploration for Allevation: Using REACTINE® for Allergy Relief and Respite!

I come from a family of allergy sufferers.

Some of us are lucky (like myself) and eventually grow out of the childhood dust allergies that plague us whenever we enter homes with infrequent cleaning schedules — and then you have Palmers like my Dad, who have sneezing fits when he mows the lawn (which he does every Friday like clockwork).

Back in the day, allergies were just a way of life. You suffered through blurry eyes and stuffy noses. You dreaded the coming summer, knowing that you’d spend your days hanky in hand. You couldn’t enjoy your time like everyone else as you struggled to breathe.

We’ve come a long way since then with solutions like REACTINE®, designed to give quick relief from the allergy symptoms that ail us!

But what’s so good about REACTINE®?

Glad you asked.

COMIN’ RIGHT UP: Ghouls, Fools and Booze — SauzaSin!!!

I kind of suck at Halloween.

It’s the time of the year where the crazy outfits come out, dentists make a killing Sure, I could always go to a store and buy a Batman costume or something, but this is only an indicator of a pattern that haunts me every year:

  1. I have an amazing idea for a Halloween costume. Past examples include Link from the Legend of Zelda series, King Bowser Koopa from the Super Mario Bros. series or a dark Medieval knight clad in some bad-ass armour. I’d win every costume competition and have every head in the room to see how awesome I looked!
  2. I realize that somehow it’s already late September or early October and there’s no way I’ll be able to put an awesome Halloween costume together in time.
  3. Get through Halloween with some mediocre store-bought costume, vowing that I’ll have something way more awesome next year.
  4. Spend the year doing everything but sort out a wicked costume idea.
  5. Repeat from Step 1.

So while this year saw no deviation from my annual ritual (as Justin would say, “Stay free to lofty ambitions”), there’s fortunately no shortage of Halloween parties that’ll have me anyway.

SauzaSin Will Do Us In

The best of the lot is an invite-only party hosted by everyone’s favourite party planners at PartyPeopleTO! That’s right — the deets are on the down-low and you’ve gotta get your invite to come party hearty and dress to impress in your Halloween finest!

While I might not have the finest costume to wear to the ball, PartyPeopleTO was cool enough to send me a SauzaSin gift pack to prepare for the madness that’s going to go down — everything I’d need to make my SauzaSin shots (cinnamon sugar and oranges instead of salt and lemons)!

But I’m all about sharing the wealth — so they also gave me another pack to give away, so you too can get your SauzaSin on in the comfort of your own home! (That is, unless your home is uncomfortable, which might make you need even more SauzaSin to be honest!)

How to Win

I love me some Internet — it makes things so much easier! All you need to do is fill out the simple entry form below to get your chance to win — and yes, I put some extra points in for commenting, promoting and liking some of the cool stuff I’ve been working on lately, so go forth and maximize your chances!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

So hopefully you’ll get down with the reason for the season and join us for some bone-chilling fun as we party with some of the coolest kids that Toronto has to offer!

Or… are you too chicken?

The 2010 20K: Day 30 – “Missed Opportunities…” — Hall & Oates

It's not all about the money. This is something I know and would like to stress. Money is good to have and can be quite useful, but should never be the be-all and end-all tool behind any motivation.

Donations:

I have a couple of old jackets to get rid of that're taking up space in the closet. With the tempatures getting as low as they have, I think there're many others who would benefit from them more than the seldom-used space in the house!

And it's so convenient!

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to get my piece for the Threadless 10K contest done to the quality I'd like by tomorrow. Trevor already pointed this out, that I need to stop leaving things to the last minute – I know it can be hard to balance all of life's commitments – maybe it's just about better time management?

Here's a look at it, anyway – the theme was to "create the next trend" – I decided to look at trends instead, and show what the next trend might be in tech – maybe with a glow in the dark effect. What I was aiming to show was all the different tech all branching into one device which is like a roll-up of them all – something like what the iPhone would be like in its next generation (not yet pictured):

This won't stop me – minor bump in the road. There's another contest at http://shirt.woot.com due Wednesday – they have weekly derbies with $1,500 top prizes – this time around, the theme is "Heart", and I have an idea 🙂 Hopefully I can actually get it in on time =/ There's a good idea rolling around in my head, and I hope to bust it out in style.

So time to wrap it up, pop in a DVD and make my way to eventual sleep.

The Math:

  • The 2010 20K Running Total = $88.04

Keep it warm, y'all.
