I feel like parents do something these days that we rarely saw happen in the generations before us:
We admit to our kids that we don’t know everything.
And it’s true—this generation has more information at its fingertips than any before them; they can quickly call your bluff with a quick Google search if you don’t know what you’re talking about. So it’s best to do away with the lie and leave the answering to the experts—likely where the answer should’ve come from in the first place.
But why should our kids be the only ones benefitting from expert advice? We adults need to make tons of decisions every day—how much easier would it be if we had someone who knew their stuff to lend a helping hand?
And that’s exactly why The Mobile Shop has brought you the Mobilist™ — mobile experts who’ll give you the unbiased advice you need to get the mobile phone and plan that you want.

Now that I’m a Dad myself, I’ve started seeing fatherhood in a whole new light.
Getting the right gift for anyone takes a lot of effort. Handmade stuff is super cute from young children, but as they grow older and become more about themselves, the effort on those gifts starts to wane with results that are sometimes… not so stellar.
With three sons who weren’t the most adept at gift-giving, I can’t count the number of ugly sweaters, gaudy ties and gift cards to the hardware store my Dad racked up over the years. My Dad wore a uniform of white dress shirts and dress pants six days a week for work— how much of that did he possibly need? But now, as I raise kids myself, I understand the value of practical gifts that add value to his life instead of ones I got “just ‘cuz.”
And it being 2018 and all, one gift that keeps on giving is technology—specifically the kind that goes wherever you do.
The World’s Catching Up — Smartphones and Semolina in the Same Shop? Oh, My!
With a couple of decades under its belt, the cellphone’s no longer this device ill-understood by the generations that came before us. My parents use social media to keep up with what I’m up to (at least that’s what I tell myself), and both have smartphones of their own to play with. I think too many people my age don’t give our parents nearly enough credit, grossly underestimating how ubiquitous smartphones have become for users of all ages.
So ubiquitous, in fact, that you can now pick up new smartphones and accessories from the grocery store.
You read that right—you might not have known this, but The Mobile Shop locations are found at participating grocery stores where PC products are sold, offering a full selection of smartphones and plans from all major carriers to give you great value! In hundreds of locations from coast to coast, The Mobile Shop offers trusted advisors who’ll show you the best phone plan that meets your needs. You may even be able to earn hundreds of PC Optimum points! So whether your Dad’s the type who wants nothing to do with this new-fangled technology or the guy who helped you build your own computer as a teen, The Mobile Shop has the right fit for you.
The Mobile Shop — Because A Smartphone’s a Great Thing to Get The Man Who Has Everything!
The world isn’t as clear-cut as it used to be. We buy cleaning supplies from the place once just sold books and rent movies from what used to be a search engine. We define masculinity differently than we did before and realise that everyone needs their own tools and resources to truly express themselves.
So this summer, I’ll be making the memories that we’ll look back on decades from now, and what better to do it with than my smartphone?
It’s 2018, y’all—time to make sure you have the device that gives you exactly what you need. And it couldn’t be more convenient with The Mobile Shop.
Make great choices out there!
Until the next,

Several weeks, a few dozen photos and four thousand words later, we’ve finally made it—the Casey Palmer, Canadian Dad 2017 wrap-up, filled with stories aplenty of 365 days spent in my not-so-orthodox life.
After wrapping the year up on a quiet note (because two sick children under five will do that to you), I still felt it necessary to do this. These year-to-year changeovers offer a lot of perspective for me—with so much happening all the time, I often forget what I had for breakfast, so I write everything down. And if the height of the pile on my desk is any sign, 2017 was quite the year. But it’s also the time where I’m the most transparent, looking back objectively at everything I’ve done and celebrating successes, owning up to failures, hoping all the while that I’m somehow growing from the process.
But yeah—let’s do this as we did in 2016: look at the year in excruciating detail, figuring out what’s worth taking with me into 2018 versus what just don’t feel part of my world anymore.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me present—the 31 things I did well in 2017! Let’s get it!
As we close in on Christmas, it becomes blindingly obvious there’re two classes of shoppers during the holiday season—the ones who know exactly what they’re getting for every person on their list… and the ones who keep it all ’til the last minute, ‘cuz they’ve no idea what they’re getting!
You might think it too late in the season to be looking at gift guides, but I know we’ve all been the victim of a poorly planned gift at least once. The kind of gift where it’s clear the giver didn’t really think about you—merely crossing another name off their list so they can pat themselves on the back.
But if you’re not putting any effort into it, why give a gift at all? Christmas isn’t about presents, right? It’s about family. Quality time. Going to church one of the few times many of y’all make it there. (I see you!)
I think you get the picture.
All that said, there’ll always be some grown-ups in your life to shower with gifts. Parents. Spouses. Maybe some teachers or a chiropractor. (They might be really good at what they do!) No matter who’s on your list, here are a few gifts I hand-picked for the occasion!
(And with it being so close to Christmas, here are the direct links so you can get what you need with the quickness!)
Zach Bussey put it well; to paraphrase: “if you’re going to be a serious influencer, you should be using serious tools.” As someone whose phone’s fused to his hands, it’d better be a good one!
I haven’t rocked a flagship model since my Lenovo Moto Z a little while back, and man do you notice a difference! The phones I’ve had since were okay, but there was always something not quite right when I used them. The camera wasn’t sharp enough. They lagged a little when I gamed. Enough of these imperfections and I knew—my next phone needed to be as close to perfect as possible… and that’s when I spied the Google Pixel 2 XL!
— Casey Palmer to basically everyone he talks to, gushing over how awesome his phone is.
In the beginning, I wondered what was so cool about a phone without a headphone jack.
When Apple announced the iPhone 7 in September, people lost their minds—what’s the point of having a device with access to millions of songs if you can’t listen to them? Buy wireless earbuds, they said. Change up the charging port with a dongle, they said. It took a feature everyone knew so well and did away with it—for a number of good reasons, mind you (waterproofing and Bluetooth redundancy to name a couple), but for all the negative hoopla they got about it, people failed to note two things:
We must embrace better methods to make better phones, and
The #BloggerLife’s made me a phone guy, blessed with brand partners inviting me to keep on top of the latest devices! One of these is Alcatel, North America’s fourth largest smartphone manufacturer, who recently celebrated the Canadian launch of Alcatel Idol 4!
At $300, the Idol 4‘s for those wanting premium smartphone features without the premium smartphone prices. (Remember the days where you could buy a new iPhone without the four-digit sticker shock???)
The Idol’s come a long way, learning from past mistakes to become a stronger competitor in the smartphone market. We get sharper cameras, faster speeds and features galore with every new phone, but where’s the device for people who just want one that works? I’ve blogged a long time and I can tell you—most people don’t want to dig through dozens of menus to find the feature they want!
So with booming bass, solid design, and a Boom key to enhance how you smartphone, let’s take a good look at the Alcatel Idol 4!
Ahoy there, Internetland — you couldn’t seriously believe I’d let the Christmas season pass me by without putting out some sweet giveaways to celebrate the holidays, right? Though not as expansive — or admittedly, prepared — as the Techmas event at my buddy Zach’s site, I’ve partnered with a number of brands who have all sorts of things they’d love you to have to ring in the New Year!
The first gift good ol’ Case Cringle has for the good little girls and boys out in Internetland is the Alcatel onetouch Idol 3, a 5.5″ Android smartphone that can do just about everything other flagship phones can do, but at a fraction of the price!
But let’s get something straight from the drop — this phone is not impervious to gravity.
I first got my hands on the Idol 3 back in June when Citizen PR invited me to BMO Field so I could witness an announcement first-hand as Alcatel onetouch partnered with Toronto FC, and a Dwayne de Rosario Testimonial Match as icing on the cake!
We’ve come a long way from when I bought my first cell phone in early ’02, keeping a close eye on how many texts I sent and chastising friends who’d call in the daytime unless it was an emergency. Everything’s gotten so much more complex since then! Smartphones are as ubiquitous as our wallets, many of us unable to function without them by our sides. We’re connected in ways we couldn’t even imagine a decade ago, popping things on Facebook or Instagram to help tell our story. But somewhere in the mix, we forgot about a lingering question underlying it all, one governing just how good we actually have it at the end of the day —
Maybe it’s the way it only charges when propped up at just the right angle thanks to its damaged microUSB port, a port that’s ever so fragile on just about any device it graces. Maybe it’s the times when the phone randomly restarts, or spontaneously ejects the microSD card, or decides that the device memory is corrupt, requiring a battery pull to get it working again. Maybe it’s the fact that technology moved so fast these days that despite winning the phone at the end of 2012, it’s already several generations old, an ancient relic of a time when “4K” was only the price tag for that shiny new MacBook Pro you coveted from the Apple Store. Or maybe — just maybe — it’s a sign that it’s time to try something new, and fortunately, I got the opportunity to do so!
Because My Phone is My Lifeline.
I run my tech into the ground.
Ever since my first Nokia brick phone back in ’02, I’ve taken my phones to their limit before replacing them. The BlackBerry Bold whose letters rubbed off of its keys from all the vigorous texting. The Motorola C350 whose screen eventually stopped turning on — probably for the best, though, with my friends always trying to drag me out at all hours of night.
Time and again, I rocked phones that wound up getting… well, rocked… and with the sad shape my current Samsung Galaxy S III is in, I’m on the hunt once more for a device that can keep up with the ever-expanding demands on my #BloggerLife! Hearing my plight, Bell and TELUS stepped up to see if they could help with the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 2 S smartphone and the Alcatel OneTouch Pop 7 tablet!
