Team Thomas Movember | Mo’ Blogging, Mo’ Problems

Being sick for most of November’s been a royal pain, keeping me from doing everything that was on my list for the month. My stack of blog drafts’ as thick as ever; house doors still squeak in dire need of some WD-40; emails sit unanswered in my Gmail inbox, and I couldn’t tackle Movember with the gusto I would were I at 100%.

It wasn’t for lack of ‘stache β€” my facial hair’s grown in nicely (much to my wife’s chagrin), and I’ve taken photos along the way to prove it. But it’s fitting that one of Movember’s foci are on mental health because I started feeling a real sense of burnout as I started closing 2015 off?

31 Things I Know Now That I’m 31: #1 β€” The World is Bigger Than Your Backyard

You’re a fool to limit yourself if freedom’s an option.

I started driving later than most, having opted instead to spendΒ ludicrous amounts of time on public transit reading, drawing and sleeping. I wasn’t particularly motivated to save for a car like most suburbanites β€” there wereΒ more than enough things I rather spend my money on: travel; gadgets; lush experiences… why drive when I could do so manyΒ other things?

If only I knew then that I’d spend so long being soΒ short-sighted.

31 Things I Know Now That I’m 31: PREAMBLE β€” Because Life is Full of Lessons

You know, it feels like the perfect time to put this series out. When I posted the news that I’d be blogging with The Huffington Post Canada’s Parents section to my Facebook the other night, the outpouring of support wasΒ astounding,Β flooring me with how happy friends were with this new milestone β€” I even had people I hadn’t spoken with sinceΒ high school reaching out to learn more about my writing journey that’d gotten me to working with HuffPo!

I think this post had the most likes since celebrating my son’s first birthday!

I’ve looked to put this blog series out since August but struggled with it, trying to frame the major lessons I’ve learned in myΒ three decades so far into somethingΒ meaningful.

But how do you introduce a daily series meant to showcase 31 of the most important things you’ve learned through yourΒ entire life???

With a lot of thought and plenty ofΒ words.
