Get Dope Optical Fashion with SmartBuyGlasses!

Dear Canada,

Now that summer’s finally upon us, it’s time to get your summer look on, too! It could be a fresh ‘do, new clothes, or even some new accessories! While we shed the layers away on every other part of our bodies, it’s a perfect time to think about what goes on our faces! SmartBuyGlasses wants you to remember that prescription or no, a great pair of glasses of help bring it all together!

Getting Dope Optical Fashion with SmartBuyGlasses — How it All Works

I’ve spent a long time developing my bespectacled look, wearing specs as early as the 3rd grade. And they’ve come a long way since then—no longer do you need to visit your optometrist, leaving with frames ill-suited to your face. The sheer variety of styles and materials we have eclipses what we could get in the ’90s, and though many today choose to go the way of contact lenses and laser correction, there’s still something about a great set of frames that can help a face stand out.

So this summer, why not consider giving SmartBuyGlasses a try? As a leading online eyewear retailer, they’ve got more than 30,000 pairs of designer sunglasses to choose from, and offer affordable prices so you can look fly for less! They’ve even got various ways to shop, including their summer shopping guide and a Virtual Try-On service that uses your computer’s camera to show you just how well your frames fit before you buy! In 2017, we’ve so many tools to help you get the look you’re going for—why not make the most of them?

SmartBuyGlasses — From Ermenegildo Zegna With Love.

As we make our way through summer with family travels aplenty to look forward to, I’m glad to have a pair of frames like the Ermenegildo Zegna ZC0001s to do it with. Harkening back to Dwayne Wayne’s flip-top sunglasses from A Different World, it’s just what my wardrobe needed to offer something different for my boys and me alike!

With school a wrap and prime vacation season upon us, make sure you get your most stylish game face on and check out everything SmartBuyGlasses has to offer! Your visage will thank you for it!

Until the next,

Help Dad Shine Bright with the Oral-B Genius 8000 Electric Toothbrush!

Mama Palmer ain’t no joke, y’all.

When I recently visited the original Casa de Palmer this Mother’s Day to spend time with the woman who gave me life, she gave me gifts to take back for the fam! For the boys, there were clothes and toys. For Sarah, magazines and a top. And for me, the eldest of her three darling children? Well….

Yeah—seems she wasn’t as keen on my BConnected headshot as I was (it’s my profile pic on every social media channel), and that I could brush up on a couple of physical attributes before I let a camera get that close. (#DadJoke.)

But it’s not like she’s wrong—remember that commercial from 20 years back when a kid calls his teacher’s teeth “mother of pearl”? Yeah. That’s sometimes how I feel about mine.

I mean, how do we get to this point? We’re taught how to brush our teeth in preschool. But somehow many of us build horrible habits that stain and wear our teeth away, dulling our smiles as we grow older.

But fortunately, toothbrush technology hasn’t sat still over the years, continually bringing us new ways to take better care of ourselves… and our teeth.

My friends—welcome to the Oral-B Genius 8000!

PLAYMOBIL | Fun’s a Sure Bet with PLAYMOBIL Take Along Sets!

Not many bloggers I know personally have kids as young as mine. It seems almost alien to have kids by 30 these days, something I see reflected in my peers and the opportunities coming my way. So when things do come in with a 3-year old and 1-year old in mind, I feel it gives a fairly unique opportunity to show things from the perspective of our young family—and that’s precisely the case with PLAYMOBIL!

Let me tell you—it pays to be a blogger’s kid!

Woe be unto you in Casa de Palmer if you come to the door and my eldest doesn’t know you—in his mind, couriers are the only other people to ring our doorbell, so you’d best not come empty-handed!

I do sometimes worry whether I’m spoiling these little guys, though. I didn’t think much of it at first, but recent events have sent me down other paths. Like when other Moms come over for playdates and mention how many toys we have. Or when the eldest puts two and two together, asking whether people “give me a lot of stuff.” Which in turn means that I need to do more with less, and make sure that the toys they do have are great ones.

That in mind, PLAYMOBIL sent along one of their PLAYMOBIL Take Along Sets for the boys, letting them discover the bits and pieces found within the PLAYMOBIL 1.2.3 Take Along Farm (MSRP $43.99)!

REVIEW: Finding My Flow with the iPad Pro

They say ignorance is bliss.

We don’t know what we don’t know, and before I got my hands on an iPad Pro, I was blissfully unaware just how much this sweet piece of hardware would change how I live my life.

The iPad Pro’s not my first rodeo with the product line—I bought a 64 GB iPad 2 back in 2011 to work on my daily blog while we were away on honeymoon. (I even made a pit stop at a Paris Apple Store—twice—because I’d forgotten my Apple Wireless Keyboard at home. Twice because I’d picked up an AZERTY keyboard the first time instead of a QWERTY… but back to our regular program.)

In 2015, a couple of 16 GB iPad Minis came my way through my work with Swiffer and Netflix—their Bluetooth 4 meant I could use third-party styli like the Adonit Pixel and the Wacom Bamboo Stylus, but I always found the experience… lacking.

Sure it was great to draw right onto the screen, but part of the reason I’d never fully switched over to digital art was because drawing on paper felt so natural and I just didn’t get that with these tools. From everything I saw, I thought us still a good way from technology managing to capture the soul that makes art what it is.

And I didn’t know how completely wrong I was ’til I got my hands on an iPad Pro.

The iPad Pro — Changing the Way We Tablet!

The iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil do more than let you draw on-screen smoothly and responsively—it’s actually inspired me to get back into drawing!

Arbonne Renewing Body Gelée | Energy Fizz Tabs | 5-in-1 Essential Massage Oil | Valentine’s Day Ideas That Keep Giving Back!

Turn around…

When I was younger, I was totally anti-Valentine’s Day. All it represented to me was yet another commercialized holiday that had stores doing whatever they had to do to get into our wallets.

Being a little older and a little wiser now, I can say there’s something here more important than the price tag you associate with the gifts you buy on special occasions…

…it’s what those gifts MEAN to the people you’re buying them FOR.

Bemoan the cost of roses and their short lifespans if you want, but the flowers, the chocolate, the cards and the fancy dinners — they all add up to building a memorable experience that you’ll be remembered for. It’s not how much you spend on something. Or how long you spend doing something. It’s whether it comes from the heart and whether that shows when you give the gift.

The actions you take that stand out from the norm is what forms someone’s distinct memories of you. If you don’t cook, learn how to whip up a memorable meal. If you’re not outdoorsy, going on a romantic hike should do the trick. Scared of heights? Hot air balloon ride. The unexpected is what’s key here, and what earns you extra points.

How Arbonne Got My Groove Back

Keeping all that in mind and paying homage to my Mansformation project (“transforming men from hateable to dateable”), Basia Downs from Arbonne sent me a few products that’d help me do something memorable for Sarah — give a kick-ass massage!

  • Arbonne Essentials Energy Fizz Tabs Citrus,
  • Arbonne Seasource Detox Spa 5-in-1 Essential Massage Oil,
  • and Arbonne Seasource Detox Spa Renewing Body Gelée

It might seem like a whole bunch of stuff for a simple massage, but each product plays its part! Lend me your ear and let me explain….

Arbonne Essentials Energy Fizz Tabs Citrus

First off, giving massages involves a lot of rigorous work, and you can’t keep up if you don’t have the energy to do it!

The energy fizz tabs are a great source of electrolytes — you’re gonna want to dissolve the tabs for 5-10 minutes instead of the 4-5 minutes suggested in the directions, so that everything dissolves evenly.

The tablets are a tasty citrus, and for someone who pushes themselves as hard as I do, it was good to not feel too fatigued to do anything.

The taste is basically that of water with a hint of citrus fruits and tastes just fine. I found it was good for after church, so I was able to get some things done and not lapse into my usual post-church nap!

Arbonne Seasource Detox Spa 5-in-1 Essential Massage Oil

One way to win brownie points is through a good massage, and if you’re a novice in the art of “doing things that make your partner go crazy”, don’t worry — the box has instructions on it:

This is one of those cases where reading the fine print would be a really good idea!

Called 5-in-1 Essential Massage Oil because it supplies 5 different therapies (body massage, facial massage, facial steam, bath soak and aromatherapy), it has a musky scent of sunflower oil to it, but not in a bad way. Just really fragrant — likely to soothe the soul and getting one in the mood… if they’re looking for a happy ending with said massage!

(If you think I’m going to write a massage oil review and not refer to “happy endings” at least once, you’ve got the wrong guy!)

The good things about this oil are:

  • It’s not too greasy or sticky — it washes off pretty easily
  • Up here in the Canadian winters, it tends to stay at room temperature rather than other liquids that’re cold to the touch straight out of the bottle
  • The fact that it comes in a pump bottle rather than a squeeze one means you’ll have a lot less mess!

Arbonne Seasource Detox Spa Renewing Body Gelée

It looks like lotion, but it’ll tingle when you put it on! …so be careful where you put it on 😐

The first thing I did when I took the gelée out of the box was wonder how it would be any different from lotion — as a Black man, I always need to make sure that my skin game is on point and not looking ashy. So I put it on (despite a slightly peculiar odour), expecting it to be a cooling feeling like just about every other lotion I’ve tried in the history of lotions.

So why did it tingle when I put it on???

Without fully going into its ingredients, I’d take a guess and say that this gelée has similar ingredients to what you’d find in muscle relaxant creams and gels like Icy Hot.

Woke up feeling fine after putting it on the night before, but I’m sure that it’d be more beneficial had I used it after one of my various intramural sports. Good that it can be combined with the massage oil for maximum effect, though I don’t know how they’d smell together. Probably only one way to find out, though!
