Help Parents Reclaim Their Shuteye with the New and Improved Pampers Baby Dry!

So I can say with the utmost confidence that I’m happy to be out of the “baby phase.” Yes, there’s a lot to appreciate about an infant—especially the second time around when you spend less time worrying about every little thing and more time enjoying them before that phase passes before you know it—but those first six months are hard. Sporadic sleep schedules. Questionable mental health. It feels like a never-ending challenge, and then one day it does end. It ends, and you’re suddenly breathing a bit easier, sleeping a bit better, and getting tricked into having more kids. (Parents of older kids—I see y’all with your trickery!)

But just as we strive to do better for our children than our parents could for us, perhaps we should do what we can to help build a better generation of parents that we were! We can teach them from our experiences. Reassure them when they feel they’re failing. And introduce them to better tools that’ll make parenting all that much easier.

And what kind of parent would you be if that list didn’t include Pampers Baby Dry?

Think Impacts Not Amounts — How RBC Wants to #Make150Count!

Think Impacts Not Amounts — How RBC Wants to #Make150Count! — Casey at the ESCAPE Conference
Me with my group at the ESCAPE 2002 conference in King City.

Back in Grade 7 when school mandated that we do at least 40 hours of volunteering before we graduate, I didn’t know it’d unlock a culture of giving with me I didn’t even know was there. Hazel McCallion’s Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee. The Square One Youth Centre. The Trillium Health Centre (formerly known as The Mississauga Hospital.) Between these and other high school activities, I’d graduate with more than 2,500 hours volunteering to my name, firmly cementing volunteerism as a driving force in my life.

Even now I see its effects. Spending time helping my church perfect its messaging and raise its kids. Thinking of what we can do to help each other first before thinking about what I can get from others. Giving back to the world is important, and it’s up to me—and adults like me—to teach this to the youth of tomorrow so they can shape a better future.

Think Impacts Not Amounts — How RBC Wants to #Make150Count! — Some of the YouthMedia Team
Me and my YouthMedia gang — a student-run newspaper back in the early 2000s.

See, youth get it. They’re not so bogged down with the harsh lessons of adulthood that they’ve lost hope that the world can be a better place. They’re creative. Optimistic. They have the potential to become great people, and it’s up to us to nurture that and give them the tools they need to make it there.

This sentiment in mind, RBC’s celebrating Canada’s 150th with the #Make150Count campaign, a national movement where they’re empowering youth across the nation to do acts of good with their resources at hand!

TRY YOUR LUCK: Star Wars Celebrates Dads with an I Am Your Father’s Day Greeting

“Your father? I am your father.”

Darth Vader’s classic line from The Empire Strikes Back has been quoted, misquoted, and referenced every which way since its first utterance in 1980.

But you’ve never seen a take on it quite like this—taking a fatherhood reveal that makes Maury Povich’s look like Page 6 news and turning it into something more… symbolic.

Star Wars Celebrates Dads with an I Am Your Father's Day Greeting — Chasing in the Woods

Any Dad who was still young enough to know how to have fun in the ’70s and ’80s grew up knowing how awesome Star Wars is. We used broomsticks as toy lightsabers. We treated the Force as a power we expected to wield in play—not something of imagination alone. And now that we’re Dads ourselves, it’s our turn to pass something down to our kids from our childhoods… and that’s why the folks at Disney and Star Wars want to wish you a Happy “I Am Your Father”‘s Day!

Help Dad Shine Bright with the Oral-B Genius 8000 Electric Toothbrush!

Mama Palmer ain’t no joke, y’all.

When I recently visited the original Casa de Palmer this Mother’s Day to spend time with the woman who gave me life, she gave me gifts to take back for the fam! For the boys, there were clothes and toys. For Sarah, magazines and a top. And for me, the eldest of her three darling children? Well….

Help Dad Shine Bright with the Oral-B Genius 8000 Electric Toothbrush! — Oral-B Genius Parts — Crest 3D White Toothpaste

Yeah—seems she wasn’t as keen on my BConnected headshot as I was (it’s my profile pic on every social media channel), and that I could brush up on a couple of physical attributes before I let a camera get that close. (#DadJoke.)

But it’s not like she’s wrong—remember that commercial from 20 years back when a kid calls his teacher’s teeth “mother of pearl”? Yeah. That’s sometimes how I feel about mine.

I mean, how do we get to this point? We’re taught how to brush our teeth in preschool. But somehow many of us build horrible habits that stain and wear our teeth away, dulling our smiles as we grow older.

But fortunately, toothbrush technology hasn’t sat still over the years, continually bringing us new ways to take better care of ourselves… and our teeth.

My friends—welcome to the Oral-B Genius 8000!

TRY YOUR LUCK: Happy Father’s Day from Tile — May You Never Lose Your Possessions Again!

Our Tile family’s grown significantly since last we crossed paths, tracking far more than just our car keys now! With a new Tile Mate four-pack keeping track of our house keys, additional car key, and Sarah’s purse (well, the one that matters most, anyway), it makes getting out the front door a lot easier, than it’s been in all the years we’ve been together.

Happy Father's Day from Tile — May You Never Lose Your Possessions Again! — Tile Mate Box

When I recently asked what Dads really want for Father’s Day, “time” was the #1 answer! It’s such a sparse commodity for far too many of us, and if a tool can help you get some of it back by taking the guesswork out of knowing where your stuff is, why wouldn’t you use it?

For those not in the loop, Tile’s a powerful way to track your prized possessions!

TRY YOUR LUCK: Help Dad Look the Part this Father’s Day with Mark’s!

You may have noticed that Father’s Day’s around the corner, and it leaves me with mixed feelings. Sure, as a Dad it’s great to have a day recognising our efforts, but it constantly feels like we put a lot less thinking into it than Mother’s Day.

Maybe we’re too hard to shop for. We invariably see variations on the same gifts every year—booze. Gadgets. Sports stuff. Shaving things. New tools, automotive merchandise… if you’re going to get Dad a gift this June, you should at least do it right.

This sentiment in mind, I’m here to remind you that Mark’s has so much more than shirts and neckties for your Father’s Day shopping this June! You can keep him looking stylish with gifts like a pair of Timberland Grantly Chelsea Boots ($159.99). Or Silver Jeans Co.’s “Eddie” Relaxed Fit Tapered Leg Jeans ($115.00). Or you could get him ready for when summer inevitably ends months from now (#TooSoon?), and put a Denver Hayes HD1 Cross Hatch Stroller Jacket ($119.99) on his back like the one I’m rocking this fall!

I like it—and shopping at Mark’s—because they carry product combining fashion with functionality. The Stroller Jacket’s water-repellent, breathable, and easy to wash, so for a Dad routinely at his little boys’ mercy, it’s a perfect fit. (#DadJoke.)

And if I’ve learned anything from my time writing posts for Mark’s, I’m not the only one who’s down with their brand—plenty of my readers tell me how much they trust Mark’s to give them the right gear for their work and personal needs!

TRY YOUR LUCK: “There to Care” — A Spotlight on Father Figures by Dove Men+Care

Family’s a funny thing. We don’t choose the families we’re born into, yet in many cases, we learn to love them for the people they are and forge our bonds over time. And then you have the families we create ourselves, learning to love them in an entirely new way as we grow old with significant others and raise children to become the adults we dream they can become.

But what about everyone else? What about the people who enter our lives, making us better than we were before we met them, regardless of how closely blood relates us? It could be anyone—grandfathers, uncles, teachers or coaches—this Father’s Day, Dove Men+Care want to celebrate the other men who play pivotal roles in our lives, their deeds too often unsung. And with that in mind, let me introduce you to a man named Paul.

There to Care — A Spotlight on Father Figures by Dove Men+Care — Paul Burns

Paul’s my boss. My boss for the third time now. He stepped into my life back in 2009, doing me a solid when things could’ve gone a very different way.

TRY YOUR LUCK: Old El Paso Let’s Taco ‘Bout It, Chapter Six — How We Celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Old El Paso Broccoli Slaw!

Cinco de Mayo’s such a strange celebration—it’s often confused with Mexico’s Independence Day (actually celebrated on September 16th); it’s not widely celebrated in Mexico at all (except for Puebla City, population 2.5 million); in fact—I’m not entirely sure most people know what it’s for (celebrating the Mexican Army’s victory over the ever-powerful French in 1862’s Battle of Puebla. The more you know, right?)

But though Cinco de Mayo isn’t exactly what we think it is, we shouldn’t let that put a damper on things—there’re plenty of ways to still celebrate it, including some delicious options from Old El Paso!

How We Celebrated Cinco de Mayo with Old El Paso Broccoli Slaw! — Broccoli Slaw Ingredients

The theme for the sixth and final Let’s Taco ‘Bout It post from this year spent with Old El Paso is celebrating Cinco de Mayo—because tacos make the fiesta better! Here in Toronto, we take this sentiment to heart as we start consistently seeing temperatures that support this city’s visceral craving for patio season. With our days of warm weather as limited as they are, we take this season seriously and have culture and cuisine that go right along with it.

This in mind, to rise to the challenge at Casa de Palmer we put a little Quick Broccoli Slaw together to ring in the season!

Old El Paso Let’s Taco ‘Bout It, Chapter Five — Of Sweet Treats, Toddlers and Tortilla Bowls.

I don’t know how to cook.

Well, that’s not entirely accurate—I don’t enjoy cooking. I’ve never found the kitchen a domain I called my own—growing up in restaurant culture, I always cooked to the beat of someone else’s drum. Chop these faster. Make sure that’s on the stove. It was a mechanical relationship, not one inspiring any love for the craft. And even now, years later, you’ll rarely catch me in there cooking food—between taking things at my own slow pace and the… particular approach Sarah prefers with respect to cooking, I’m rarely inspired to go in there and experiment. My skills feel better suited to other tasks in Casa de Palmer.

That said, this isn’t an attitude I want my boys to inherit. We need to eat to survive, yes, but preparing that food should be something we enjoy doing, putting a bit of ourselves into our cooking (metaphorically speaking, of course). We should ultimately benefit from food we can appreciate.

So perhaps it’s not a tradition, per se, but my promise to myself is to make sure my sons don’t end up like me. I need to roll my sleeves up, get out of my comfort zone, and start cooking with my boys now to make their lives far better later.

And what better way to do it than with Old El Paso, with flexible products that’re as simple or complicated as you need them to be?
