We, as a species, have become so adept at lying that we’ve learned how to do it without even consciously TRYING to do it.Tell me if you’ve heard this one before:”This’ll be the last time—I SWEAR.”
Okay, there’s only a few ways you can make this guarantee—either:
- you’re God and are omniscient,
- you can see the future,
- you’re FROM the future, or
- you’re full of it.
As a species, we don’t have the ability to see the future. You want to trust psychics and other such mystics, you go ahead—it’s your prerogative. However, let me ask you this: if a psychic could REALLY predict the future with any accuracy, wouldn’t they just get the winning lottery numbers and stop operating out of a sketchy-looking hole in the wall? I’m just sayin’.
We make promises all the time that we truly can’t know whether or not we’ll be able to keep.
“I’ll carry it to my grave.”
“Not for all the money in the world.”
But old habits die hard. And old habits can only be conquered by new ones and a conscientious effort to stick to them!
So will you make empty promises despite having the best of intentions at heart, or will you be good to word and change whenever needed to become a better person for it?
I guess we won’t know until NEXT time, right?
