Back when I got ready for school after the summer break, it was flashcards and workbooks to get me back in the swing of things.

I’m about to sound like my Dad, but—these kids don’t know how good they have it!

While I didn’t need to walk miles uphill to and from school or forage through the woods with my bare hands for dinner, technology has come a long way in the last few decades!

There’s so much that can distract my kids now. With so much going on, it can be hard for them to learn the skills they should be learning, like reading, counting, and how to tell time on their own.

But just as the Kidibuzz gave my eldest a taste of what it’s like to have his own phone, VTech/Leapfrog came back with a few more tricks up their sleeves to get your little ones ready for September!

The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX2—Learning to Tell Time While Looking Cool!

If you’ve been around awhile, you may remember my previous Kidizoom post as we got one for my eldest’s fourth birthday. And he fell in love with having his own smartwatch, especially with Monster Catcher, an augmented reality game that uses the Kidizoom’s camera and motion sensor to let your child find and defeat the monsters around them!

But he wasn’t the only one who fell in love with the Kidizoom—soon his baby brother wanted one, freaking out over his exclusion from the cool wristwear club.

So for this school year, we’re trying it again with not one, but two Kidizoom Smartwatch DX2s, so both kids can discover ways to interact with their devices and the world around them!

The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX2 offers a few key features your kids will love:

  • 55 digital and analogue customizable watch faces that’ll help your little one learn to tell the time in a way that works for them,
  • two cameras that’ll let them take everything from action shots to selfies that you can upload on your computer through a micro-USB connection so everyone can see their creations,
  • and plenty of active play challenges that’ll keep them healthy while having fun!

The Kidizoom Smartwatch is an excellent multifunctional watch designed to be just like a grownup’s—trust me; they’ll love it!

But it’s one thing for your child to be able to tell time (and have fun doing it!); it’s another entirely for that child to fill that time learning all sorts of other skills that’ll come in handy for their development, and for that, I’d like to introduce the Leapfrog LeapStart 3D learning system!

The LeapFrog LeapStart 3D—Having Some Fun While Learning to Read!

So you never quite know what toys your kids will latch on to, but our youngest got into the new LeapFrog LeapStart 3D learning system and how it let him bring the things he saw on the page to life!

If you’re unfamiliar with the LeapStart system, it’s centred around a set of interactive books that help your child learn about everything from letters and numbers to playing well with others and daily routines. There’s a built-in stylus that activates touch-and-talk activities and enhances their understanding with little animations that play at the top of the device!

The LeapStart library carries more than 25 books for kids from preschool through to the second grade, and includes characters from popular shows like Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig and PJ Masks! And with more than thirty activities in each book, most having two levels that grow with your kids, there are hundreds of ways for your kids to build tomorrow’s skills today!

Getting kids to have fun while learning isn’t easy, but it doesn’t mean that it needs to be a headache. We’re getting better at this from one year to the next, and educational toys like the VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX2 and the LeapFrog LeapStart 3D will get your kid in the perfect state of mind for their return to school in September!

Good luck getting ready for the school year ahead, and until the next, I remain,
