Every day’s full of randomness. Sometimes we get so focused on the task at hand or caught up with the situations around us that we don’t notice it, but it’s there.
Today, for example, saw karma kick me in the butt when I joked about someone’s klutziness and ended up breaking a wine glass and slicing my wrist; saw me moving a massive armoire from one office to another on a dolly with one flat tire; and saw me riding the subway home with a neighbour and his kids, getting to know them a little better.
Every day is full of random events, but we glide past them in our minds like they’re insignificant.
And we wonder why we’re so miserable. Why we get so caught up in the doldrums of our lives, feeling like we’re meaningless, not contributing anything to the world at large.
Growing up for us seems to mean that we stop using our imaginations, stop looking at things in wonder and stop enjoying the simple pleasures of life that’re all around us.
It’s said that we let the world get us down, but I think that’s only partially trueโwhat would be more accurate is that we play an active role in manufacturing our individual realities. We are responsible for our fortunes and misfortunes, our successes and failuresโwe keep blaming it on others, but let’s be honest here and give credit where credit’s due.
The random things in life are but some of the things we need to appreciate to free us from the limiters we place on ourselves. We’re the ones who shackle our hands together; we create the boxes that keep us contained โ so do yourself some kindness and take it back to basics!

this makes me think of of the concept of your locus of control from personality psych. internal locus of control (believe things within of your control) vs external locus of control (believe things outside of your control) speaks to exactly what you are saying in your article. huge believer in the former than the latter.
another great article, casey!
Thanks @judyelee for the comment love ๐ I’m hoping that my posts will help to kickstart parts of the mind that my readers may not have used in ages and help them get back to a place where they might be far happier than they are now!
It’ll be a long and hard road for anyone who tries it, but I think it’ll be worth it ๐
